Let me know if you have any questions
As you are likely aware, Equifax one of the 3 major credit bureaus that has access to some of the most sensitive personal information announced September 7th that a cyber security incident discovered in July, exposed names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and addresses of approximately 143 million U.S. consumers (44% of the population). In addition, a smaller amount of driver's license numbers, credit card numbers and certain disputed documents were obtained. This data breach is the largest and most damaging in US history. Undoubtedly these people and their families are at risk of their identities being stolen, it could take up to 18 months to resolve, and they may need to take off work time to deal with this issue.
Uncertain situations such as this give rise to increased awareness, concern, and stress as millions of people scramble to discover if and to what level they've been impacted by this crime. Many will become victims of identity theft and spend countless hours and (typically) thousands of dollars repairing the damage.
IDShield licensed private investigators through their identity theft plan provides access to not only credit monitoring, internet monitoring and other databases but most of all Restoration. They are uniquely poised to provide comprehensive solutions for your employees, to assist you in mitigating time and/or productivity lost. These services can be an instrumental component in your benefits and risk management strategy. Now is a good time to schedule a presentation so your employees and staff can learn about the updated IDShield and how it covers all pre-existing matters.
You can learn more about how to respond to this situation on the following news segment. Listen as Morgan Wright, U.S. State Department Senior anti-terrorism adviser, provides tips on what consumers can do immediately to pro-actively protect themselves if they think their personal information was compromised from Equifax's data breach and he references his IDShield Protection Membership!
How to Protect Yourself from Equifax data Breach, Morgan Wright, US State Department senior anti-terrorism adviser, CNBC
Equifax is rightfully being perceived as untrustworthy for hiding this breach for 6 weeks while three of their senior executives sold Equifax shares worth almost $1.8 million in the days following the discovery of the breach. Equifax is offering one year of free credit monitoring with another division of their own company called TrustedID. I recommend you DO NOT enroll with the Trusted ID, as its protection is minimal at best, based on the information stolen. If someone initially enrolled with TrustedID, they unknowingly agreed to submit complaints to arbitration and waive their rights to a class-action suit, or benefit from any settlement against the company. Immediate public pressure has forced a change in this policy to better benefit the victim, but ultimately this will affect them for a life-time.
Below is the link to know if your information was compromised. It requires you to enter your last name and the last six digits of your social security number. If you click the ENROLL button, it will automatically enroll you, another red-flag, as they have your personal information on file. You will find some docs attached.
